Following last weeks departure of chief executive Tom Machin, the BPIF issued an agreed statement on Friday (7 July). It said that Machin "had resigned with immediate effect to pursue other opportunities."
Neither Bailie nor Machin would elaborate on the reasons behind Machins sudden exit, or confirm whether or not a pay-off would be involved. A letter explaining the situation to members said "it has been agreed with Tom Machin that neither he nor the BPIF shall make derogatory comments about the other."
A BPIF source said: "The president and chief executive have to work closely together, and clearly there was a breakdown in that relationship."
Machin is joining management consultants MacGregor Associates, and will head up the firms executive search division. "I was at the BPIF for five years, which is the longest Ive been in any job in my entire career. A lot of things have been done, but theres a lot more still to do."
