Arjowiggins joins WWF climate saver programme

Paper manufacturer Arjowiggins Graphic has joined the WWF's international climate savers program.

It joins a host of big name brands, including Coca-Cola, Volvo, Sony and Nike, which are planning to cut their CO2 emissions through the scheme.

Each company is given an individual list of targets by the WWF, with Arjowiggins committing to reduce its greenhouse gas absolute emissions of 23% between 2007 and 2014, with a sub-target of 10% reduction for each tonne of paper produced.

According to the company, this will be achieved thanks to the growth of recycled papers volumes; the biomass steam production at Dalum using wood residues and avoiding natural gas us; and the replacement of synthetic binders by natural ones.

Arjowiggins chief executive Agnès Roger said: "We are focusing on being exemplary in the management of our environmental impact. Energy efficiency management and greenhouse gas emission reductions are fundamental to our future and are fully part of our company strategy.

"We see the integration into Climate Savers program as a very good opportunity to leverage experience and knowledge with the best in class worldwide companies, who are truly engaged in a low carbon economy."
