APP signs deal to keep in with green practice

Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) has agreed a series of legally binding environmental covenants with its creditors.

APP deputy chief executive Michael Black said the latest environmental agreement was yet another landmark since APP launched its Sustainability Action Plan in February.

"We are doing what we said we would, namely being accountable for delivering against our commitment to be fully sustainable from 2007," said Black.

Further biodiversity assessments of APP's Sinar Mas forestry concessions will also take place.

As part of the Indonesian giant's Master Restructuring Agreement (MRA) and Sustainability Action Plan agreed with its creditors (PrintWeek, 26 February) the group is committed to being fully dependant on plantation grown fibre from 2007.
