Antony Rowe buys H+H folder as part of 400k spend

CPI Antony Rowe has rounded off a 400,000 post-press spend with a Herzog + Heymann (H+H)/MBO folding line and said the upgrade was critical to building its print-on-demand business.

The company has installed an H+H M7.46 pocket folder with MBO SAP 46L vertical delivery and Arran AS 200 CRB semi-compact rambundler with compressor – all from Friedheim International.

The folder handles work from a range of Océ presses, the last of which was bought in September last year.

In the past 12 months, the Eastbourne-based company has also installed a Watkiss Power Square and a Wilstead three-knife trimmer from Encore Machinery.

General manager Martin Collyer said: "The division has grown turnover by 30% in the past year thanks to print-on-demand books, and a company can't grow without being able to bind the books. If we can't produce the books, we are not a print-on-demand printer."

Antony Rowe's latest installation is its fourth H+H folder, the first two of which were Collyer's first two buys when he joined the company in 2007. In that time, Antony Rowe Eastbourne's turnover has gone from £3m to £4.5m.

Collyer added: "With the H+H folders, we can bundle books much more easily. With the weight of paper used in digital printing, if a gust of wind blows through the factory it can affect the books, but we are able to bundle them as soon as they are printed and finished."
