Board Trays is the new brand launched on Tuesday (10 September) by the Edenbridge-based packaging group.
Its output at present consists of four products: hermetically-sealed Halopack; shallow counterpart Skinpack, Punnetpack and rigid-board Stackpack, with all four products at the forefront of the company’s showcase at Packaging Innovations/Luxury Packaging 2019 in London on Wednesday and Thursday (11-12 September).
Partnership marketing manager Claire Summersby said: “We launched the website because we are always being asked to provide alternatives to plastic packaging, and now we have a platform from which to offer our four solutions.
“A lot of our work is bespoke, and it is hard to convey that through our group-spanning corporate site and the new Board Trays service allows us to showcase this in a way that makes sense to people.
“We are lucky to work in cartonboard as it is a naturally sustainable product. There are times and places where plastic can be the right thing to use, but we are certainly benefiting from the current climate where people are looking for more eco-friendly alternatives.”
Interest is already high in the products on sale under Board Trays, with the Skinpack trays launching in Aldi supermarkets this week and the Punnetpacks being used by Sainsbury’s for its Taste the Difference range.
Alexir Packaging was founded in 1989 by chair Robert Davidson and established itself beyond the cartonboard sector with its gradual expansion through additional branches including Alexir Brands, Alexir Co-Packing and Alexir International to form the group.
Currently bringing in £36m in sales, Summersby said the firm’s ambitions were to reach £50m turnover while continuing to fulfil a market niche “in the middle” between the smaller companies and the large conglomerates.
