Agfa agrees Monotype sale

Agfa has further refined its focus on printing with an agreement to sell its font business Agfa Monotype.

The 144-staff firm, based in Wilmington in the US, has been sold to Boston-based private equity firm TA Associates for 92m ($169m) and will now be called Monotype Imaging.

Agfa said that with its concentration on pre-press and industrial ink-jet, the font business was not a core activity and would be in a stronger position with an investor committed to it.

l Agfa closed the deal to sell off its consumer imaging business last week. 2,860 staff transferred to AgfaPhoto, which comprises the old Agfa photographic film and photo processing business (PrintWeek, 19 August).
