Chris Ratten and Lindsey Cooper of RSM were appointed as joint administrators of G&H Sheet Fed today (29 August), following a three-week hiatus at the business.
“The decision to appoint administrators was made by the directors of G&H after suffering a bad debt combined with difficult trading conditions within the printing sector,” RSM said in a statement.
G&H Sheet Fed operated from three sites. It had employed around 80 staff although 56 were made redundant prior to the appointment of the administrators.
The remaining employees are also expected to be made redundant, with their claims being handled by the Redundancy Payments Service.
The £11.9m turnover business ran a range of digital and sheetfed printing kit, as well as a 16pp Goss M600 hybrid web offset press fitted with Kodak high-speed inkjet heads. It produced a range of commercial print and retail flyers for clients including Nisa, Lakeland, and both Manchester City and Manchester United football clubs.
There is interest in the company's assets and the administrators are speaking to several interested parties. A number of companies are understood to be looking specifically at the web press, which is four years old.
Ratten said: "The tough trading environment for the print industry continues and unfortunately a sizeable bad debt and squeeze on credit limits has led to another blow for the sector."
The ultimate controlling party of G&H Sheet Fed is H&A Holdings, which is a subsidiary of G&H Print Services.
PrintWeek has been unable to reach G&H owner Earl Hawley for comment.
