Adare plans Shipley shut down to create Park Mill DM hub

Adare has revealed a multi-million pound project to create a new 300-employee force in direct mail by merging its Shipley facility into its Park Mill site.

The Shipley site, which was formerly known as Lexicon and currently employs around 100 staff, will close its doors by the end of the year.

Its work and staff will transfer to Park Mill, which was known as Halcyon until Adare’s rebranding earlier this year. The site is undergoing expansion work and will soon take delivery of a new Xerox iGen3 digital press.

Adare chief executive Robert Whiteside said the effect on staff numbers would be “largely neutral” and insisted that the move was not a cost-cutting measure.

He said: “All the staff at Shipley have been offered positions at Park Mill. We are confident that a significant number of the key staff – account handlers, production managers and so on – will be moving over.”

“This will create a £45m-£50m data and multimedia-driven output centre. The aim here is to provide our customers with a complete communications lifecycle, all under one roof.”

He added that the merger of the two sites, and the investment at Park Mill, was a key step in Adare’s repositioning as a marketing and communications business, which kicked off in February this year.

The move is planned to finish by the end of the year, although Whiteside said he hoped it would be completed before the end of Adare’s financial year in October.

The addition of a new iGen3 will mean that the Park Mill site will run three Xerox digital presses. Whiteside said that there would be further investment in infrastructure and technology at the site.

When the changes are complete, Park Mill, near Huddersfield, will be Adare’s hub for both DM and transactional mail, and will, the company hopes, allow it to improve its range of personalised products.

Household-name clients using Adare’s DM services include HBoS, Bradford & Bingley, Green Flag, Aon and Calor.
