Acrobat security upgrade issued

Adobe has issued a critical security update for its Reader and Acrobat PDF tools.

The patch has been issued to address a problem that could cause the application to crash and could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the system.

The update is recommended for Mac, Unix and Windows operating systems.

Software affected are versions 9.3.4 and earlier and 8.2.4 and earlier, and Adobe recommends updating to version 9.4 or version 8.5.5.

The update can be installed by using the software’s update mechanism, which is set by default to run automatic updates. A manual update can be carried out by selecting check for updates from the help menu.

This update follows a similar patch for the company’s Flash Player.
