Academy Press gets digital refit for wide-format

The new owner of Scottish printer Academy Press is set to invest in new digital equipment in a bid to break into the wide-format market.

Managing director Ron Skirving said he intends to invest in an Oc wide-format plotter in addition to its full-colour A3 double-sided Nashuatec DSC 38 laser printer.

"At the moment wide-format work goes outside the West Lothian area and I want to draw local businesses," he said. "But we're a small firm; we're not competing with the big boys."

Skirving is also a director at web design consultancy HTS Solutions and invested in Livingston-based Academy following the retirement of previous proprietor Gilbert Cook. He had run the company for 25 years.

Skirving also plans to double the workforce at Academy to four over the next few months. He is also implementing a new on-line ordering system for clients.

The firm currently has four single-colour offset litho presses.

Academy produces commercial stationery including leaflets, letterheads, brochures, booklets and compliment slips.
