The 61-year-old company in Spalding, Lincolnshire, which specialises in office stationery and products for horticulture retail, replaced its old CCM 78 in a circa £20,000 trade-in deal with Terry Cooper Services (TCS).

Production director Aubrey Howling said: “It was time to change and the new system has upgraded software, and its accuracy is fantastic, absolutely spot on.”

The 23-staff commercial printer runs a fully automatic Komori 529, two Heidelberg GTOs, a two-colour and a single-colour, and two Ricoh Pros for digital work, a C8100 and C7100sx.

The company also runs a stationery shop and produces millions of header cards for plant names for big-name multiples. Spalding is at the centre of the UK's horticulture industry.

Howling added: “We looked at a secondhand guillotine but it made sense to go for the competitively priced CCM Premier. It is reliable and easy to use.”

According to CCM, the Premier 780 offers improved ergonomics that deliver more efficiency. A full-colour 10in touchscreen eases operator use while air side tables enable smooth paper handling.

A deep clamp opening accepts more paper while the automatic knife, with clamp optimisation, reduces overall cutting time.

Totally enclosed knife change with monitored single-shear bolt protection and turnbuckle adjustment, makes a fast, safe, easy knife change. There is also fully-enclosed rear guarding.

Howling said: “I liked the touchscreen set up and the fact it is so easy to programme. We can get work on and off it very smoothly. The backguage is also much quicker.”

Established in 1956 Abbey Print is one of the largest colour lithographic printing companies in south Lincolnshire.
