A source close to Norprint Labelling Systems has revealed there are expected to be 53 redundancies at
the Boston, Lincolnshire-based firm.
PrintWeek's source said 36 of the redundancies are to come from the shop floor, 15 from the administration department.
Two managerial positions are also expected to be lost.
Norprint managing director Eden Douglas said he would not comment on the job cuts until after the 30-day consultation period had expired and staff had been fully informed.
Douglas, who led the 7.9m MBO from Norcros in 1998, said the cuts were necessary because some of Norprint's traditional market sectors were in decline (PrintWeek, 24 November).
In September, Norprint Labelling Systems opened
a new digital print centre
built around an Indigo WebStream digital press.
It also made 20 job cuts at its Sileby plant four months ago. The company has around 450 employees and 53 label presses. It supplies labels for Tesco, Asda and Marks & Spencer.
