3D Digital managing director Dave Moyse went to Drupa last week to sign for the machine, which arrives at his Docklands premises mid-June.
"I was keen [on the iGen3] anyway but needed to be sure what the competition was up to and Drupa gives you a good opportunity to look at that," Moyse said.
Having inspected the NexPress and the HP Indigo offerings Moyse settled on the iGen3 due its "print quality, versatility and productivity".
"I didn't feel the NexPress offered anything different [from iGen3] and the HP Indigo is more of a proper printing press. It's a long way from green button technology," Moyse said.
The iGen3, equipped with Creo Spire RIP, will replace two DocuColor 2060s and will operate alongside a 6060. It will be used to print variable data marketing materials and statements.
"We have a strong base of customers and we're confident that within a year we'll have it running at the 1m a month level," said Moyse.
Buckingham Colour Group also went to Drupa to sign for an iGen3 (PrintWeek, 13 May).
