How did you find your way into the industry? I left school and very quickly realised that A Levels and university wasn’t for me. I decided that the best route for myself was to look for an apprenticeship. An opportunity came up here at Emmerson’s. I did some research into the company and the industry and felt I could have a successful career here
Did you know anything about print beforehand? None at all, I have learned it all from scratch
What does your role entail? I work within the account management team. This involves dealing with customers on a day-to-day basis, quoting and booking in jobs along with booking any outwork in. I am also in charge of ordering the paper for our new Fujifilm Jet Press 750S
Do you have an ideal career path mapped out? I would like to carry on learning the tricks of the trade and have a wide range of knowledge on all things print from my current account management position. By the time I am 25 I want to be in a print sales role bringing in lots of work for the business and then move on to be sales director
What would be your dream job within the print industry? I would love to be a sales director representing my company
What would be your dream job outside the industry? I’d love to play for Coventry City FC
Which box set would you recommend? I would 100% recommend Gavin and Stacey for those who haven’t watched it before. It’s a great easy watch with lots of humour, I can’t wait for the Christmas special coming up
What’s your most-used app? Absolutely love Twitter, the thing I love about it is that you find all sorts on it, whether that is funny videos and tweets to reading about important issues throughout the world
What has surprised you most about working in the printing industry? I was surprised how complicated the industry is, looking from the outside it looks as simple as clicking a button to print. But having worked in the industry for four years now I realise there is a lot of work that goes into printing each and every job, whether that is planning the job up, printing the job, to the variety of print finishing techniques that can be applied
What could the printing industry be doing more of to entice millennials into print? Take on more apprentices, they aren’t enough young people in print. I think we need to broadcast our industry a lot more and show how important it actually is.
