Q&A: Steve Puttock, managing director, Schawk London

Steve has worked extensively in production and advertising/marketing for the past 15 years, with senior positions at Publicis, Omnicom and DuPont, as well as running his own production agency, The Network, for a number of years. He is married to Jan, has two daughters and lives in Hertfordshire.

Why did you get into printing?  
I thought the ad said ‘painting’

What would be your dream job?
Charlie Sheen’s events manager

Who would play you in a movie about your life?
How about Jude Law, although I have a lot more hair than him?!

What would you most like to print?
£1,000 notes and lots of them

What is your favourite film?
Alien. The special effects broke new ground and it still looks amazing

What’s your favourite TV programme?
Anything non-reality. Whatever happened to escapism?

What is your favourite phrase?
‘You can lead a horse to water but a pencil must be lead’

What is your greatest luxury in life?
Time

What is your greatest ambition?
Personally, to achieve wealth in all its forms. Business-wise, to educate the industry on the enormous value of brand point management, the science of creating consistent and compelling experiences at every customer touch point

Who or what makes you laugh?
Looking in the mirror in the morning

Most embarrassing moment?
Emerging naked into a hotel corridor at 3am, having opened the door that I thought was to the bathroom

Which superpower would you like?
The ability to talk in any language

Who would be your favourite party guests?
Jack Nicholson, Jools Holland, Anne Hathaway, Ridley Scott and Nigella Lawson. Great stories, great music, interesting company and top food.  

When would you go if you could time-travel?
I’d jump between Mark Chapman and John Lennon wearing a bulletproof vest
