Q&A: Clive Bramble Sales executive, The Colchester Print Group

Clive has been involved in the print and packaging game for 43 years, and has five more to go. During his time he has held 17 positions in nine different companies. This year he celebrated his 60th birthday and 40th wedding anniversary. He and his ‘long-suffering’ wife have two grown up daughters and four grandchildren.

Why did you get into printing?

I sort of slipped sideways from my roots in printed packaging

What would be your dream job?

At this stage in my career my dreams revolve more around retirement

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

George Clooney – he’s even got my haircut!

What would you most like to print?

Money

What is your favourite film?

It would have to be Soylent Green. It’s 40 years since I first saw it but I still remember the twist and the poignancy of it, so it must have been good

What is your favourite TV programme?

Eastenders (but don’t tell anyone)

What is your favourite phrase or saying?

It’s ‘Yes, you get that’. The perfect stock answer to any complaint or criticism. Try it!

What is your favourite album?

The War of the Worlds. I’m very excited to be going to see it performed live at the O2 in December

What is the strangest job you’ve had?

I did a lot of moonlighting when I was younger – selling seafood around the pubs, delivering paraffin, driving ice cream vans... The list is endless

What is your greatest ambition?

Great, great grandchildren

What’s your greatest fear?

The government raising the retirement age again

Who or what makes you laugh?

Carry On films and silly humour. I confess to sadly having the entire Carry On collection on DVD

Where would you like to be now?

On a sunbed on a warm beach

What’s your worst fashion disaster?

I had some very high platform boots in the 1970s and some pretty huge collars, but that was considered cool then so I’m not sure that they can be called disasters

Which superpower would you like?

Because I drive so much, it would be great to be able to fly (but only low because I don’t like heights)

Where would you go if you could time-travel?

To Friday, 21 June 2019 (retirement day). Do you see a theme emerging?

What is the worst kind of print?

The silly, cheap internet stuff. Stop it! You are killing the industry

What was the best business deal that you’ve pulled off?

I suppose it was the first time I opened a major account with a household name. It was Bic Biro

How would you like to be remembered?

As someone with integrity, someone you could trust

Life is…?

About the legacy that you leave behind – all the thousands of people who wouldn’t exist if you hadn’t existed yourself
