Q&A: Christine Steele Sales director, UK Bookbinders

Christine has worked in the print industry since 2015, and describes the trade as “keeping me very busy”. She enjoys socialising with friends and family at weekends, and is now also a doting grandma to her son’s new baby.

What is your nickname?

I am known to my parents as Cookie. If they ever refer to me as Christine, I know I’m in trouble

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

A very curious thought, but I have been asked if I am Davina McCall on more than one occasion!

What is your dream bit of kit?

The Kolbus hard-cover casing line and the Kolbus DA270 Casemaker 

What is your favourite film?

I love anything sci-fi

Who do you admire most in the industry? 

I admire anyone who is prepared to share knowledge and pass on their learning to the benefit of the industry. I was extremely impressed with all the speakers at the PrintWeekLive! show held in Coventry this year

What is your favourite phrase or saying?

‘If you do what you’ve always done, you will get what you always got.’ Time for change

What book are you reading at the moment? 

Inferno by Dan Brown

What is your greatest luxury in life?

I recently bought some gemstones and had them made into a ring

What is the strangest job you’ve had?

I was brought up on a farm and my job was to put rings on the lambs’ tails so that they would fall off!

Who would you like to be stuck on a desert island with?

I would hate this, don’t care who it was, it wouldn’t be worth it. I like my comforts too much

What is your greatest ambition?

I don’t have material ambitions, but always focus on staying happy

What’s your greatest fear?

Spiders terrify me and I will vacuum them up as they freak me out

Who or what makes you laugh?

I love a dry sense of humour

What piece of kit would you like to see invented?

Teleportation. This would cut out so much travelling time and generate more business

What’s your worst fashion disaster?

In the early 1990s I had a white chiffon mid-calf skirt and a black top. I was immediately named ‘Snow White’!

Which superpower would you like to have?

Telepathy! It would make appointments so much easier

Where would you go if you could time-travel?

To my next appointment or even the next galaxy

What was your childhood obsession?

Horses, I had seven of them

What is the worst kind of print?

Poor standards leading to poor quality

What was the best business deal that you’ve pulled off?

Landing my current job

What advice would you give to your teenage self?

Get in tune with your instincts and follow them as much as you can. Learn emotional intelligence at a very young age

How would you like to be remembered?

Honest, truthful and loyal, and with a great sense of humour
