The Color 8250 Production Press is a 138 A4ppm machine, based on the iGen, it is tuned for higher volume jobs and lower operating costs.

Applications include replacing pre-print and highlight colour cut-sheet transactional work.

"We believe a market exists above current cut sheet devices and below continuous feed," said Xerox marketing manager for continuous feed Europe Jo Oliphant. "Continuous feed kicks in at 3m A4 pages per month, this will produce 1.5m-2m."

There is also an option for a roll feed input, which offers lower material and labour costs.

"The distinction of CF and cut sheet then is where you make the cut; in this case it’s before the print unit," said Oliphant.

Pricing has yet to be set for the machine that will be available in Europe in the third quarter.

The launch followed that of the single engine duplex (SED) model of Xerox's CiPress waterless inkjet press for lower volume and constrained footprint operations.

The single engine duplex (SED) runs a half width web of 241mm in a single tower. A field upgrade is available.

Oliphant said a twin SED option should prove popular as it offers the back-up of continued operation, albeit at reduced throughput, during breakdowns and maintenance without the capital expenditure of twin lines.
