The Cyjet SP72 KM has been developed by UK-based specialist automation company Cyan Tec, and incorporates single-pass Konica Minolta UV inkjet heads from Industrial Inkjet.
It has a linear print speed of 27m/min and a print resolution of 360x720dpi. The model on show at Fespa is printing with Toyo Inks onto plastic bottles and parts in CMYK, but the system could also print additional colours, such as white, primers, and varnishes. Print width can be from 72-212mm, with custom sizes also available.
"Not many people can do what we’re doing with this machine," said Industrial Inkjet managing director John Corrall. "Probably 70%-80% of the enquiries we receive are about printing onto plastic, but we’ve also done glass, metal and wood."
Instrument and watch manufacturers have already expressed interest in the device, as well as product decoration specialists.
"The Konica Minolta heads are very compact and reliable, they just work," Corrall added.
The Cyjet SP72 KM costs around €87,000 (£100,000) depending on the configuration and surface pre-treatment options. It can also be fitted with robotic loading and conveyor systems.
Two machines have already been sold to internet-based personalisation companies.
Separately, Industrial Inkjet is showing inkjet printed samples using specialist fluorescent inks for security applications.
