Watford's Creative Place plays part in banner world record attempt

The Watford-based print and design agency has printed what is expected to be the world's longest photograph, when judged by the Guinness World Records later today (1 June).

The project, which has been organised by east London-based artist, designer and inventor Clare Newton, measures more than 1km and is comprised of 70,000 photographs.

The piece shows around 5,000 people jumping and is the product of Jump4London, which aims to have the record in place before the London Olympics.

Newton said: "By jumping, people become the art: the simple movement allows any individual to take part. A high-speed camera captures not only the participant’s spontaneous movements, but also the dynamic and exciting mix of nationalities, abilities, colour and moods, all set in environmental or creative backdrops.

"The panorama tells a story about the participants and what their lives are about – but the panorama is not just about a photograph. Threaded through this work of art are hidden secrets, clues and mysteries all to be discovered through careful examination by the onlooker."

Creative Place printed the banner on its Agfa Anapurna M2050 printer on banner material from Amari Digital Supplies.

Adjudicators from Guinness World Records will judge the attempt later today, at London's ExCel exhibition centre, where the banner will be on display until 9 June.
