UPM blames weak markets for bleak profit predictions

UPM said profits for its sawn timber business would weaken due to uncertainty over raw material supply, and that it will start staff negotiations over the possible closure of its Leivonmki sawmill.

The producer of printing papers for magazines, newsprint and fine papers has already responded to the weaker markets and reduced its sawmilling over spring and summer.

Located in central Finland, the Leivonmäki mill produces spruce sawn timber and employs 63 staff. It has generated constant losses, according to the company.

The full year profitability outlook for the sawn timber business within the wood products division is also expected to weaken further.
