A total of 120 jobs are expected to go because of the plans, which affect editorial and auxiliary departments as well as the Fort Dunlop print facility.
As a result of proposed changes to the Midlands portfolio, Trinity Mirror Printing Midlands is reviewing its Birmingham Fort Dunlop facility "with the intention to provide a structure that ensures it remains competitive".
In the Midlands Weeklies division the company is proposing to shut the Ashby Trader, Burton Trader & Echo, Coalville Echo, Lichfield Post, Loughborough Trader Xtra, Tamworth Times and Walsall Observer.
This will lead to the closure of offices in Burton and Walsall.
In Coventry, the Bedworth Echo, Rugby Times and niche publications the Earlsdon Blog and Farm Ad are to close.
The Solihull News and the Solihull Times are to be merged together.
Georgina Harvey, managing director at Trinity Mirror Regionals, said: "We, in common with all UK publishing companies, are facing some real challenges. As a consequence, this will involve difficult decisions, but necessary ones to secure our long-term future.
"These actions announced today are designed to protect our Midlands businesses and the majority of their employees. We are seeking volunteers from within affected groups in order to minimise any necessity for compulsory redundancies.
"In addition, we are offering the opportunity for staff in other parts of our Midlands businesses not affected by these proposals to volunteer for redundancy."
In August 2007, Trinity sold off 27 regional papers to Tindle Newspapers, including South London Press, North London & Herts Newspaper and its Yellow Advertiser titles.
