The DC5 can handle a wider range of media widths than its predecessor DC4, which was limited to 610mm, 750mm and the maximum of 1,370mm (max print width 1,275mm).
In addition to these three media widths, the DC5 is compatible with media widths of 500mm, 1,000mm and 1,220mm. Similarly, the DC5(sx) can now handle media down to 500mm wide, in addition to the 610mm and 750mm options of the DC4(sx).
Print resolution for both new machines remains the same at 609x304dpi, as does maximum print speed: DC5 up to 8.7sqm/hr spot, 3.2sqm/hr process; DC5(sx) up to 10.7sqm/hr spot, 2.8sqm/hr process.
Maximum cutting speed is also the same at 600mm/second. A new user interface has been added, together with a touchscreen control, while both machines are available with the latest version of Summa's Colorcontrol RIP+Cut edition.
Randi Kerkaert, product engineer at the Belgian manufacturer, said: "With the introduction of the DC5 series to our printing technology portfolio, more than ever our partners will have the opportunity to provide reliable printing solutions to customers, meeting the ever-changing and demanding workplace requirements within the thermal transfer printing market."
The DC5 series is aimed at the sign making, labelling, vehicle wrap, aerospace and outdoor advertising industries.
Summa highlighted the benefits of thermal transfer resin printing in terms of durability, with outdoor prints lasting up to five years without lamination, and environmental performance, with no chemical waste and no VOC or solvent fumes produced during printing.
