“We have created the SolarJet to fill a specific gap in the narrow-web label market. It offers printers producing smaller runs the opportunity to free up their flexo presses for high-volume jobs,” says Sun Chemical Digital’s business manager, digital print solutions, Stefan Slembrouck.
The machine was built in partnership with Colorado-based firm Imaging Technology International and is aimed at firms with run lengths of fewer than 10,000 labels. The firm believes it will be most relevant to the pharma-ceu-tical, health, beauty and electronics markets, where printed products must be updated regularly and run lengths are being shortened to reduce waste.
The machine is designed to fit into conventional workflows and runs at speeds of 25m per minute. It can print both reels and individual labels, and handles print widths between 53mm and 160mm. SolarJet supports up to six- colour printing and is equipped with Xaar 760 printheads in CMYK, which can achieve 900x900dpi images.
A closed-loop operating system manages ink delivery, print head performance and ink curing to maintain printing stability during jobs.
In addition, Sun Chemical has unveiled its range of SolarDot pigment UV inks to accompany the machine.
