The West Molesey-based company bought the "clean, lean and green" press at Drupa and will now be able to offer shorter runs at competitive prices.

David Houghton, who runs the company with David Harrison, said: "The Speedmaster XL gives us higher margins on what we print so that we can charge our clients what they want to pay without making a loss."

D2 specialises in shorter run litho work and Houghton believes that at Drupa, litho took on digital by lowering the bar and increasing the efficiency of makereadies while maintaining quality.

The XL 75 features the new Prinect Press Center and Intellistart which, working in tandem with Axis Control spectrophotometry, means very fast set-up times and consistent colour control to reduce waste sheets.

Houghton said: "The new machine will allow us to expand into sectors where there was not the revenue before. The higher margins we can now achieve have opened up new opportunities."
