Shalini Vijayarajan and S Priyadarshini are the students of the year

Two students from the Department of Printing Technology of Anna University, Chennai have won the PrintWeek India Awards in the student category.

Shalini Vijayarajan and S Priyadarshini, both Bachelors of Engineering in printing technology from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, have proved their career aspirations by their commitment as the future of the Indian print industry.

Vijayarajan has shown consistency in her academic pursuits and been a topper in all eight semesters. She was awarded a gold medal by the college for this achievement. Being an effective communicator, she has always expressed her ideas effectively while presenting her project papers.

Vijayarajan has special interest in the field of packaging. She presented a project on Application of Nanotechnology in Food Packaging during the National Conference on Trends in Printing and Packaging and was rewarded the second prize.

Priyadarshini has topped in the subject of Printing Inks in semester IV. She has been ranked among the top five students in the department. She has presented papers on E-Paper & E-Ink and has demonstrated profiling on monitors and scanners to the teams from the printing industry during open house session. She has secured third place in B-Plan Event held at National Level Conference for Printing Engineers (NCPE' 09).

During their terms, Vijayarajan and Priyadarshini have been members of the newsletter The Guindy Times, published by the college. They completed internship in The Times of India and Scientific Publishing Services.

These two students will be honoured by PrintWeek India on August 26, 2010. The official sponsors of the Students category of Awards, Heidelberg India shall sponsor one academic course at the Print Media Academy in Chennai for both the students.

Namrta Dhar, the marketing head of Heidelberg said: "Education and right skill-sets are increasingly important in today's dynamic and challenging environment. It is our conviction that training will create human capital for the print industry and bridge the mismatch between supply and demand of trained personnel."
