Russell Press becomes Green Mark certified

Commercial printer Russell Press has been successfully audited for the Green Mark environmental standard.

The Nottingham-based digital and litho printer has worked to get the standard over the past eight months, implementing two recycling schemes and a system to deal with hazardous waste.

Mike Coates, sales and marketing director at the £1.5m-turnover printer, said: "Green Mark is designed for SMEs and we felt that it was the right time for us to get the standard.

"It has been a very stringent process to implement it and has involved switching to Agfa's Azura processless plate, which has saved us using a lot of water over the past eight months."

The company is also FSC certified and has plans to become ISO 14001 accredited in the near future, he said.

"Getting environmental certifications is an absolute necessity for us as we were getting a lot of customers asking for it. It also fits in with the company's ethos on the environment, and setting up the standard has helped enable our staff to get involved," Coates added.

Russell Press was established in 1968 and the 19-staff business produces work mainly for the charity sector.

Green Mark claims to be a low-cost and easy to follow award that can help companies reduce costs through reduced energy use and procurement.
