The judges said the machine was "supporting professional signmakers as they seek out more creative opportunities in the market... including stickers, window decorations, banners, posters, vehicle-wrapping and canvas".
Launched in September, the 64-inch, dual printhead Soljet Pro4 XR-640 costs from £19,999 and is aimed at larger sign shops that can take advantage of its 49.1sqm/hr output speed and is available in seven- or eight-colour configuration.
According to Roland, the jury was "especially impressed" with the extended gamut and effects offered by these configurations, including CMYKLcLm, light black, white and metallic silver inks.
Eli Keersmaekers, chief executive of Roland DG Benelux, said: "The XR-640 is our new flagship product and we have high expectations of it. The jury recognised that the XR-640 is the ideal unit for signmakers, thanks to its great versatility and excellent quality.
"We are therefore also proud that we can add this Award to our growing list."
The biennial Viscom trade show is aimed at the European signmaking industry and switches between Frankfurt and Düsseldorf, with the most recent outing taking place in Frankfurt last month.
The Viscom Awards honour the innovation of Viscom exhibitors and are split into five categories: Signmaking, Large-format printing, Light advertising, Textile refinement and Software.
The jury is drawn from the trade press, trade organisations and members of the exhibition organisation.
