Note by Frazer Chesterman, managing director of Fespa
As we prepare to open the doors on Fespa 2010 (from 22-26 June 2010), it does seem that the worst of the economic storm has passed, and printers can look forward to more clement conditions in the months and years ahead. What is clear though is that, wherever we work, we will have to learn to operate in a different climate. The seismic changes that have taken place in the financial sphere have changed the ‘rules’ forever. Everywhere we go, we hear members of our community talking about a permanent shift that challenges their traditional ways of doing business. Globally, entrepreneurs in every sector are grappling with ‘the new normal’.
Fespa 2010 comes at a perfect time. Our recent Fespa Worldwide Survey tells us loud and clear that wide format printers in every region are optimistic for their futures. Printers recognise that the power to manage change in their businesses lies in their ability to continue to innovate, to deliver new solutions that meet customers’ changing needs. This chimes with Fespa’s own campaign for the show, which has beaten the drum loudly for printers to innovate out of the downturn.
Whether you’re coming to the show planning to invest in the latest technology, or simply to explore new applications or consider their business models, we guarantee that you’ll find inspiration and fresh perspectives that will help you harness new business opportunities. Fespa is the largest event worldwide embracing both screen and digital processes, serving printers from all geographical regions and at all stages of technological evolution. It provides the perfect environment if you’re evaluating how to optimise your blend of analogue and digital processes to a changing work profile and shifting customer needs.
In 2010, some 150 screen exhibitors occupy one dedicated hall of the five-hall show, and screen dominates the new Fespa Fabric event, which is dedicated to garment printing and decoration. Reflecting the market’s rapid progress towards digital production, the remaining three halls are devoted to digital innovations, making this zone of Fespa 2010 the largest Fespa Digital event ever. As a source of clarity and direction if you’re planning to step onto the digital path, it will be unbeatable.
Indian visitors to Fespa 2010 can access an exciting schedule of stimulating English-language events within the Fespa Innovate! Programme. Spanning all five days of the show, the Fespa Innovate! Programme offers free access to sessions hosted by world-leading authorities from print and associated industries. All the sessions are geared towards giving you practical advice on how to cultivate a spirit of innovation throughout your business.
The Fespa Innovate! Programme includes a Digital Debate that will focus on what’s new in digital technology, creating a forum for discussion of how you can harness digital processes and applications to propel your business forward.
In addition, Fespa’s own stand (Hall A1, Stand 269) will host the Great Innovation Debate, giving you a chance to voice your thoughts on how innovation can help the industry move forward. The Global Gurus Debate will feature Fespa founding father Michel Caza and colleagues talking about the issues affecting the global wide format community.
And because ‘innovation’ does not start and end with technology, Fespa’s sales and marketing director Marcus Timson and I will host a lively 60-Minute Innovate! Workshop offering practical advice and tips on how to take a more innovative approach to business.
If creative stimulation is what you need, then the Fespa 2010 Awards are a chance to see first-class work from screen, digital and textile printers from around the world. Indian print service providers always respond enthusiastically to the call for entries, so I’d expect the Awards gallery in the Atrium to showcase some of the best printing talent from India. For the first time this year we are offering a People’s award chosen by visitors to the gallery, so don’t miss your chance to vote!
And if vehicle decoration revs your engine, we will be running an exciting live Fespa Wrap Cup competition supported by Avery Dennison, which will see competitors go head-to-head each day, with an electrifying showdown on the final day of the show.
Textile printing is showing consistent growth worldwide, and there are opportunities all around the show to see screen and digital printing onto textile substrates. But if your business is garment printing, promotional wear or decoration, then Fespa Fabric is the place for you. Europe’s leading event for garment decoration and textile printing, Fespa Fabric will feature a daily Fabric Live! fashion show, modelling the latest innovations from key exhibitors in textile and garment decoration.
And if you need to get up to speed with environmental legislation and the demands of brand owners for environmentally sustainable print production, then don’t miss the free half-day Planet Friendly Summit.
With such a world-class line-up of events, coupled with the opportunity to see the ultimate showcase of cutting-edge products and technologies to help take your business to the next level, can your business afford to miss out?
For free entry to the show, make sure you pre-register online at www.fespa2010.com before 21st June. We look forward to seeing you in Munich!
