Putting up postal prices poses problems for DM

The latest news from the postal sector is leaving me confused, (Postal giant calls on Postcomm to allow final mile charge increase, <i>PrintWeek</i>, 29 March).

I suppose the liberal­isation of the UK postal market means it will take time to settle down, but I fear if Royal Mail gets its way and increases the final mile delivery charge for rivals, DM printers will have to pass on the costs.

I also fear it could put companies off running DM campaigns, or marketers could switch to other mediums. That would be disastrous for the industry.

I can only hope that Postcomm resists Royal Mail’s latest attempts to increase prices.
