Winner
Windles Group

A finalist in 2007 and 2008, Windles hit the high notes this year, blowing the judges away with its consistently high standard. The Buckinghamshire-based company uses a specialist machine, designed and built in-house, to apply silver foil from a printing plate. Multi-coloured and unique foil colours were achieved by overprinting of the foil on Windles’ seven-colour Heidelberg with UV coater, while finishing including hot-foiling, foil embossing, die-cutting, tipping-in and flittering was carried out in-house to complete the desired effects.

Piccolo Press

A range of superb work was submitted by this Nairn-based specialist printer, but it was the invitation for the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers that really caught the judges’ eyes. The job was commissioned after the client upgraded to a four-colour coat of arms, which required the production of four hand-engraved hardened steel dies for the logo and a polymer plate for the text.
The Sherwood Press

Perennial performer The Sherwood Press rarely leaves the PrintWeek Awards empty-handed and this year is no exception. The Nottingham-based company picks up a deserved commendation – its third in six years. Examples of its work included the Lynn Tait Gallery range of greeting cards, which demonstrated pin-sharp clarity and exact colour reproduction on a tricky uncoated substrate.
