CRP Print and Packaging was tasked with creating the ideal box for personalised chocolate bars currently available online as part of Cadbury’s Joyville Made campaign.
Chocolate lovers can visit the campaign website and customise the bar’s sleeve and insets as well as creating a bespoke web-card with additional photos and videos.
CRP created a double-sided fold-out flute box with litho graphics and a UV varnish on the inside to create a high-gloss image. The Northamptonshire company used a six-colour, KBA Rapida 162a with two varnish units to print on 210g white lined chip.
The outside of each pack was printed two colour high-quality flexo pre-print to register on a 140g uncoated Kraft liner. The packs were printed to register on both sides and then laminated on an Asitrade corrugator.
The difference between the two finishes creates a surprise for the customer, which fits with the campaign message of "bringing joy to people."
CRP sales and marketing director Dev Brahmachari said: "We are at the centre of innovation and high quality pack design. Leading brands will turn to us to provide imaginative solutions for decorative packaging."
He said one of the clever things about the design was that the pack could securely hold both 360g and 200g bars.
"There was quite a lot of work in terms of design and we worked closely with the brand and communications agency Hypernaked. It was important that we had the facility to register print to both sides and in a cost-effective way. That’s technology that most people don’t have."
Sales manager at CRP Matthew Watts said the company, which invested in litho in 2011, had seen "a considerable interest" from brand owners wanting to find ways of reinforcing brand messaging.
