S&C Labels will move with its seven-colour Heidelberg CD102 press to Print-Leeds expanded facility later this year, with all 25 employees offered the chance to move across.
According to Print-Leeds managing director Rod Fisher, the investment more than trebles the company's turnover from £1.5m to £5m, while it now employs 40 staff.
S&C Labels is a wet label company producing bottle labels for the drinks industry, such as Magners, Newcastle Brown Ale and Marstons.
Fisher said: "S&C fit very well with what we are trying to do. We have a UV litho division, a digital division and this adds another niche market that we can print for. By bringing their B1 Heidelberg, we can also extend to printing B1 plastics as well.
"Printing on plastic ebbs and flows with the economy because it’s mainly point of sale and point of purchase work. Labels, however, are on the increase – especially with bottled beer becoming more popular."
S&C's Heidelberg will run alongside Print-Leeds' existing Heidelberg CD74 six-colour press.
The £1m covers the acquisition of the assets, moving the business to Leeds and expanding the existing premises. Although Fisher believes the two businesses fit together perfectly, the merger actually came about by chance.
He explained: "Charles Smith, a director of S&C, did not see it as a core business, he actually owns a bottled water company. He wanted somebody to take it on that would want to grow the business and look after the staff and he was put in contact with me.
"It was a profitable business for sale, which is unusual in print at the moment, and it was a fantastic opportunity, too good to miss."
