Continuing its long-running partnership with social enterprise The Reader, the interactive event took place on 16 and 17 November at Banks Road Primary School, in Garston near Liverpool, which was voted as the school most deserving of the experience by the Prinovis workforce.
The funding was made available as part of the Liverpool-based firm’s Vision for Literacy Business Pledge and it has been working with The Reader since May 2015.
“A lot of our activities have been focused in engaging our employees but we wanted to engage with a local school,” said Prinovis communications, external affairs and recruitment manager Matthew Cox.
“Part of the interest for us was for the kids to understand where words on a page come from and that’s why we have a relationship with The Reader.
“We’ve now got a programme of activities planned for next year, some of them set in stone and some works in progress. We want to complement the syllabus, support The Reader and support the activities that schools do. It’s important we don’t just go in and do an activity just because it’s important to us.”
Over two days, the Storybarn on the Road initiative combines storytelling with games, songs and creative play, as staff at The Reader act out the stories being told and children are encouraged to join in.
Cox added: “You’ve got to be there to truly experience it but it’s part performance, part storytelling and it’s different for every age group."
Elsewhere, having been commended last month at the 2017 PrintWeek Awards in the Environmental Company of the Year category, Prinovis was a recipient of a gold award for environmental achievement at the EEF North West region manufacturing awards earlier this month, beating off competition from beauty product manufacturer Faith in Nature, and it is now heading to the national awards final on 25 January in London.
“The prestige is particularly high because the category is important to us as a business, fundamentally our environmental status is important to us and our customers," added Cox.
Prinovis health, safety, environment and security manager John Morris added that the award was a “testament to our hard working and dedicated team”.
