Independent driving experts, sponsored by BP Ultimate Fuels, visited the Premier central distribution centre near Birmingham and 12 company vehicle drivers took part in coaching lessons to learn how to drive more economically and efficiently.
Elliot Rogers, premier central operations manager, said the results were surprising: "Economical driving techniques are not as obvious as you'd think and it was interesting to see what improvements in fuel efficiency could be made by changing your driving habits."
Premier said it has used the information gained from the day to launch a company-wide initiative to reduce wasting energy and resources.
Elliot added that focusing on improving efficiency makes good economical sense and also fits in with the company's ISO 14001 standard.
