The Bristol-based commercial B2 and B3 printer, which has a turnover of £1.7m, invested in the Intelligent Finishing Systems-supplied machine in June 2010 to replace a 30-year-old Stahl folder.
Managing director at Manor Printing Services Chris Holloway said: "The Horizon has allowed us to a do lot more work, smaller folds and the speed is about five times faster than the previous folder," he said."On our old system we could produce 3,000-4,000sph but on the Horizon we can get through 10,000-15,000sph. This has made a massive impact on our speed of throughput."
The company employs 25 staff and its clients include the House of Commons, Royal Academy of Engineers and Bristol University.
The JDF-ready highly automated 40,000sph folder features touchscreen set-up via a high-profile icon-based interface with easy job recall thanks to the 200-job on-board memory store and the 19 fold pattern pre-selection program.
"Another vital factor for us was being able to bring all the folding in house as we were sending the more complex jobs out. We are a bit out in the sticks and so now we are saving money on fuel as well as the time it took to turn things around. We are much leaner and more responsive. Our day-to-day carbon footprint is smaller too."
