The new B1 long perfector, which will be up and running in January, replaces an existing SM 102-8-P, boosting productivity by up to 30%, saving one week per month by comparison.
Pensord's new machine has been specified with Inpress Control that will handle automatic colour and register while Autoplate XL is equipped for simultaneous plate changing.
Karl Gater, operations director at Pensord Press, said the latest investment comes as part of a three-year plan put in place following the company's recent MBO.
"We are investing for the growth of the business as we are nearing capacity on our existing presses and of course the new technology will help with driving efficiencies, which is key to the success of any business," he said.
The magazine and periodical printer will also upgrade its finishing and CTP prior to the press installation with a Fujifilm-supplied Screen machine.
Commenting on the incoming XL press, Gater said: "The new XL press technology is very exciting from my perspective and for the operators it should make their work a little easier but no less skilful, with the colour control and plate changing.
"The higher productivity will mean that the organisation and flow of work will be critical to success."
In July, Pensord chief executive Tony Jones sold the magazine printer to an MBO team led by commercial director Darren Coxon and operations director Gater.
Gater said the three months since the buyout have proved to be positive period for the Welsh printer.
"We have had a good three months. Sales levels have been high and we’ve exceeded expectations," he said.
