Packaging Innovations London announces seminar programme details

London’s only packaging show is inviting speakers from some of the world's biggest brand names to talk on key themes such blending luxury with sustainability.

Packaging Innovations and Luxury Packaging London’s seminar programme runs from 14 to 15 September at London’s Olympia.

Harrods' head of food technology and development Ann Dunne will look at emerging trends in the prestige and luxury markets and analyse events of the last 12 months.

Britvic senior innovation manager for packaging Lisa Meade will discuss packaging development challenges that are shaping the company’s packaging decisions.

The free seminars will run across three theatres throughout the two days, including an opening interview and Q&A with MP Mark Pawsey who chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Packaging Group.

Visitors will be invited to submit their questions for Pawsey in the run-up to the show. The following seminar sessions will span the entire packaging chain in print, packaging and design.

Easyfairs marketing project manager Shona Thomson said 4,000 people came to last year's show and organisers expected to match or exceed that number this year.

“We've been hearing a lot about sustainability, so that will be a major show theme. Our beauty forum will focus on getting the balance right between luxury packaging and sustainability.”

She added: “Another key theme is design and brand impact: how can you make your brand stand out on shelf at the point of purchase to get customers to make a snap decision to buy your product? There will be case studies on designing to become an iconic brand.”

On day one of the show will be an interactive panel discussion, looking at the future of creative packaging.

The panel will explore the latest consumer trends in premium and creative packaging and includes Think Tank Media creative manager Alex Higgs.

Other panel members include Strand Paper business development manager Ian McKay, Novalia technical print production manager Chris Jones and Simon Rumble who handles brand enhancement at Leonhard Kurz Stiftung.

LF Beauty packaging technologist Paul Day will explore what pitfalls should be avoided in NPD and where to look for inspiration to innovate. He will also look at new packaging formats.

AVA Packaging Solutions managing director Alison Vincent will outline the "seven essential elements" packaging departments in FMCG/CPG companies must embrace in order to create value.

Iggesund Paperboard market communications director Jessica Tommila will focus on how choice of material impacts on sustainability.

In addition to the seminar programme, the 2016 show will have 170 international suppliers exhibiting.
