Newspaper Society launches 15m free local newspaper advertising competition

The Newspaper Society has joined forces with a number of local newspapers to offer 15m worth of free advertising to up-and-coming businesses.

Local media proponent The Newspaper Society has launched Local Business Accelerators, which is being supported by Dragons' Den judge Deborah Meaden.

Almost 500 local publications have signed up to the scheme, which aims to show the advantages of local advertising, as well as promoting local up-and-coming SMEs.

Businesses between one- and three-years old can apply by telling the Newspaper Society why three months free advertising would benefit their business.

Examples of ideas being looked for include a "great idea or product", or a new market that will create new jobs.

As well as free advertising, companies that are selected will be given professional advice on their business, with an overall national winner given access to Meaden for a year.

She said: "I’ve seen the unique contribution that local press makes to the success of local businesses time and again with my own ventures.

"In this age of enterprise it has never been more important to drive awareness about the value of local marketing for a fledgling business, which is why I’m so proud to support Local Business Accelerators and help build thriving and industrious communities."

Print business owners can enter the competition here before 14 November 2011.
