MPC, which predominantly serves trade printers, designers and print management companies, took over ownership of the business on 1 January 2015.
MPC managing director Tony Crook said: “The previous owner of The Press has an extensive portfolio in property and has gone to pastures new and left the print industry.
“The company didn’t go bust, it had paid all of its bills and made sure its employees were all looked after so it was a nice amicable way of taking over a business.”
As a result of the deal, MPC has acquired assets from The Press including a 2006 12-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster 102 with Cutstar and an array of folders and guillotines.
MPC already operated a Speedmaster XL 75 five-colour-plus-coater, which it bought last year, a Speedmaster SM 52, an HP Indigo 5500 and a range of Heidelberg, Muller Martini, MBO and Palamides finishing equipment.
After acquiring The Press’s eight staff, £1.5m turnover and 1,580sqm factory, MPC now has 48 staff, a turnover of £5m and total space of 2,509sqm across two premises.
“At MPC we deal with the quick, smaller volume work and the 12-colour perfector and CutStar has added an extension to our capabilities,” said Crook.
“We’ve won new work because we can now offer our existing customer base the extended range of our capabilities by going to the larger volume work that we were not able to compete with in the past.
“And vice versa as The Press’s existing customer base, who have predominantly been clients with larger volume work, have been able to pick up the smaller B2 and B3 work.
MPC’s next planned move is to buy a Muller Martini Acoro PUR perfect binding line.
“At the moment we only have a Muller Martini single-shot perfect binder so this will enable us to do larger run perfect binding and also be able to offer PUR to our customers as well,” said Crook.
Note: MPC Print Solutions is unrelated to the Enfield-based Magazine Printing Company, which is often abbreviated to MPC by PrintWeek.
