Morgana managing director Quen Baum said that around 70% of those orders had been confirmed just a week after the end of the show on 7 - 10 October, some of which have already been shipped to customers.
Interest doubled the number of sign-ups that Morgana usually attracts at international shows, according to Baum. The company is in the process of shipping excess stock to its US dealers to cope with the unexpected demand.
Baum said that there were "no tyre kickers" at the show despite the fact that it was quieter than previous years. He expects Graph Expo sales to reach nearly $2m (£1.3m), several hundred thousand of which came in one Sunday afternoon.
Morgana's DigiFold Pro, Autocreaser Pro and CardXtra Plus digital multi-finisher were the best selling machines, accounting for 70% of orders. Baum said the sales were spread across the US and customers from southern states showed the most interest.
Baum said: "We’re not over confident but the number of orders, enquiries and visitors was a definite improvement on last year."
He said that trade shows only made up "part of the mix" in Morgana’s sales strategy however, running alongside email, open houses and social networking.
"It would make our lives easier if trade shows were the only way we did our selling but the customer clearly doesn’t want that any more which is why they are coming in lower numbers," he said.
Morgana’s DocuMaster MFC bookletmaker and upgraded DocuMaster Pro were also shown to a US audience for the first time, alongside the latest versions of the Pro range of creasers and folders and DigiBook 150 PUR perfect binder launched at Drupa.
