President Greg Moquin described the company as kind of the "printer’s printer" for the region, furnishing commercial printing houses, print brokers, in-house print shops and designers with specialty printing, die cutting, foil stamping and finishing capabilities.
"It’s been working out well for us with that model," Moquin added, noting the company does about $11m in annual business. "It’s been better in the past, but I can’t complain about how we’re doing right now — there’s people doing worse I can tell you that."
The company said that it will use the new Vutek GS3250 for a variety of grand format work, including packaging—a category that it already has plenty of expertise in. "I haven’t done a lot of that in grand format," Moquin said. "But I just talked to my clients and they said if you get it we’ll buy from you."
Moquin said the company looked at a number other presses, but ultimately was won over by both the quality of the Vutek GS3250 printing as well as the great relationship he’s had with Heidelberg in the past. The company operates two Speedmaster XL 105 presses, and a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 74.
Of the new Vutek, he said: "It’s an EFI machine and I also have a good relationship with them and I do have some of their front-end MIS in my shop. Heidelberg is ‘repping’ it for them and the purchase seemed to work out."
Once installed in the New Year, the press will feature color management via Prinect Color Toolbox, Heidelberg's color management suite for secure, reliable color calibration. "When it comes to coordinated campaigns printed on multiple devices, color management by Heidelberg will enable us to demonstrate a degree of expertise that will be of considerable added value to our creative and design customers," Moquin said. "We have color management by Heidelberg on all of our equipment."
The company, which employs 105, also has three Indigos from HP. "We’ve been in the Indigo digital market for about six or seven years," Moquin said, adding, "And we have a 10000 on order that we’ll get in June."
