The digital printer has signed a deal with Punch Graphix UK to install the press.

Mal McGowan, owner of McGowans, said: "We only came out to Drupa to see the latest technology and see what was happening in the market. We had no intention to buy.

"However, when we saw the amazing quality being produced on the new Xeikon engine, we just knew that this was the machine for us."

McGowans was the first company in Ireland to install a Xeikon digital web press, providing it with the ability to print duplex (double-sided) B2 size for any length at low costs. The new machine will give it the capability to print at 1,200dpi.

"Our original Xeikon DCP50 was great, and was a real workhorse, but the new machine also provides for a wider imaging format, allowing us to print at up to 500mm width, and handle substrates of up to 350gsm," McGowan said.

Dublin-based McGowans provides a wide range of digital solutions via its 15 digital output devices, including point-of-sale and retail graphics for customers throughout Ireland. Its capabilities extend from business cards, commercial print, outdoor media, and even building wraps.

It employs 56 staff and has a turnover in excess of €10m (£8m).
