Madras Security backs Africa citizen ID project

The Chennai-based Madras Security Printers (MSP) are preparing 'citizens' identity cards for several governments of African nations including Rwanda and Tanzania.

The company is engaged with a dozen of the African countries in various security jobs including passports, visa stickers, stamps.

Speaking on the experience of MSP, M S Gopinath, manager, marketing-international business said: "We are an approved UID (unique identity card) vendor in India. We have the achievement of implementing the Tamil Nadu Government Health Insurance Scheme, issuing 10 million smart cards covering a population of 50 million in a short span of four months."

Rwanda and Tanzania have a combined population of over 50 million.

The job would involve setting up the project from enrolment to printing of identity cards as well as online solutions.

The company which is part of the Eagle press group has several accreditations including ISO 9002 printing of cheques, postage stamps and other high-value security documents.

MSP has a significant share in the global market for smart card printing.

"Scratch cards, lotteries and online lotteries are big business in most African countries except in the northern region," Gopinath said.
