M-real Graphic Paper sales director goes on gardening leave

M-real Graphic Paper's regional sales director for the UK & Ireland has told PrintWeek he is on gardening leave and likely to leave the business in early spring.

Andrew Gunman has said he and some of his colleagues will be involved in statutory negotiations and consultations that will begin next week.

He said: "Although it would be wrong to pre-judge the outcome, I think one can reasonably assume I will be leaving the business in the early spring."

Since 1 January 2009, M-real Graphic Papers Business Area has been part of manufacturer Sappi Fine Papers Europe, and Gunman said he does not envisage he will be part of the new organisation.

He said: "Sappi has bought all the business including mills, order books, brands and know-how. They have also taken on a number of our sales people."

He thanked customers and colleagues, who he said have "contributed to my immense enjoyment in the job and my pride having represented M-real Graphic Papers in the UK".

Gunman has spent eight years at M-real, in what he said is "the most exciting media market in Europe bar none".

"Although we are now adjusting to a precipitous slowdown, the industry is not alone in facing these challenges," he said.

"I'm sure with the dedication, inventiveness and belief that exists in the UK print-based media industry, things will soon be looking up and there is no reason to despair."
