The Bourne, Lincolnshire-based business, which serves a broad spread of clients including DIY businesses and car manufacturers, has used the machine to replace a mono inkjet engine.
According to Darren Warman, production director at Links Labels & Tapes, the seven-colour capabilities of the ws4050 press have enabled the 42-staff company to produce a wider range of print collateral.
"It gives us the speed, the quality and the colour gamut to produce a broader range of work. We're doing an increased amount of variable data work too and to have that in full-colour makes a real difference," he said.
The £320,000 total investment has enabled the business to cope in what Warman described as "an incredibly busy time" for the label printer, which also runs Focus flexographic printing kit.
"We are normally busy at this time of year but it's really taken off this time. We put through work from 200m on the Indigo but recently we have done a 34,000m job because the work keeps coming," he added.
HP's 16m/min Indigo ws4050 is the successor to the ws4000. It offers a wider range of substrates including glue-applied and self-adhesive labels as well as shrink-sleeve materials from 12micron to 350micron.
The ws4050 has a reinsertion function to allow duplex label printing, and offers the IndiChrome option for five-, six- and seven-colour printing.
