The company claimed the KJ4 Series printhead, initially developed with Brother, will print at speeds of up to 200m per minute at a resolution of 600 x 480dpi, and 150m per minute at 600 x 600dpi.
In trials over the past year, using two printheads in MJP600 printers made by Miyakoshi Printing Machinery, the presses achieved outputs of 1,000 A4 sheets per minute.
Kyocera Thin Film Components Group general manager Hitoshi Takao said the new printhead "will open new markets for inkjet printing technology. We believe this product will finally make it possible for the inkjet printer to compete successfully in the mainstream market for commercial printing."
The printhead comprises a Kyocera-developed piezo actuator that accommodates 2,656 ink nozzles in a 108mm-wide arrangement. The device itself is 200 x 25 x 58mm.
The printhead can use both water-based pigment and UV inks, delivering them in droplets ranging from four to 20picolitres.
The KJ4 Series printhead will go on commercial sale from April 2008. Kyocera expects the platform to bring in 1bn Japanese yen (£5m) in revenues in 2008, and increase that tenfold the following year.
The KJ4 Series will be demonstrated at this year's Drupa, which takes place from 29 May to 11 June in Düsseldorf, Germany.
