The company's Gallus machine has enabled the business to broaden its product offering for customers such as whisky businesses in the drinks industry.
According to Ewing, it was "interesting" to see the level of technical equipment on show at John Watson.
He added: "Ambitious companies like John Watson are key to building sustainable economic growth for Scotland and I wish them the best of luck as they build on their success and take forward ambitions plans to expand their operations."
The 10-colour press represented a £3m investment for the company as it moved into self-adhesive label print production.
Despite a 185-year relationship with Royal Bank of Scotland, John Watson, MBE, had to turn to Switzerland to secure finance for the machine.
Speaking at the time, he said: "If I can’t get funding, and I have been profitable every year in my 40-odd years with the business who can get funding in the printing industry?"
