John McCormick & Co enters receivership with 40 jobs lost

Glasgow stationery printer and office supplies business John McCormick & Co has gone into receivership with loss of 40 jobs.

The company told staff last Friday (3 October) not to return to work this week citing difficult trading conditions and increasing debts for the closure.

The closure marks the continuation of a torrid period for print companies in and around Glasgow.  In February, 70 jobs were lost at newspaper publisher DC Thomson when the company cut print production operation at its Port Dundas site, saying that declining volumes meant the facility was "unsustainable".

And last month, Thomson Litho owner GZ Digital Media pulled the plug on manufacturing at the East Kilbride site with the loss of 60 positions.

According to Herald Scotland, Chartered Accountants Campbell Dallas is handling the receivership of the company.

Derek Forsyth, a partner with Campbell Dallas, said: "The business has suffered in recent times from increased material and utility costs and has not been able to keep trading as a result of that.

"We are not anticipating finding a buyer for the business and will now concentrate on realising its assets by selling off what is left."
