He replaces Rupert Middleton, who was director of manufacturing at Trinity Mirror and who has left to join a non-competing company in the industry.

Middleton said: "I am delighted that John is to lead the TMP team. I have worked alongside him for many years and his experience and commitment to the job is second to none. He will do a great job."

Brewis has worked at Trinity Mirror Print for a total of 15 years, most recently as commercial director.

According to Middleton he played a key role in diversifying TMP’s revenue streams and helped turn the business into the "pre-eminent newspaper printer" in the UK.
